FAQs

How is Davis Montessori Academy different from traditional daycare centers and preschools?

1

Davis Montessori Academy offers more than childcare–we provide an early learning environment built on Montessori principles.

Our program focuses on:

  • Hands-on learning experiences

  • Respecting each child’s pace of development

  • Creating a calm and purposeful classroom environment

  • Encouraging confidence & independence

Teachers guide children through meaningful activities that help develop problem-solving skills, concentration, and social responsibility.

What is Montessori?

2

The Montessori Method is an educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that focuses on child-centered learning. In a Montessori classroom, children learn through hands-on materials, exploration, and guided-discovery.

Key Montessori principles include:

  • Learning through hands-on experiences

  • Respecting each child’s natural development

  • Allowing children to explore at their own pace

  • Building confidence, independence, and responsibility

This approach helps children develop strong foundational skills and develop a lifelong love of learning.

What would a typical day look like for my child?

3

A typical day at Davis Montessori Academy includes a balance of learning, exploration, play, and social development.

Children participate in:

  • Montessori learning activities

  • Hands-on practical life work

  • Language and early math exploration

  • Art and creative expression

  • Outdoor play and movement

  • Group activities such as circle time, music, and storytelling

  • Quiet rest or nap time

Our goal is to provide a structured yet flexible environment where children can explore their interests, build confidence, and develop a love of learning.

How many children are in a classroom?

4

At Davis Montessori Academy, we keep our classroom sizes intentionally small so that each child receives personal attention and support. Our classrooms are designed to create a calm, nurturing learning environment where teachers can truly get to know each child and support their individual development.

How much time to children spend outdoors?

5

Outdoor play is an important part of a child’s development. Children at Davis Montessori Academy spend time outdoors daily, weather permitting. Outdoor play supports physical development, social interaction, and exploration of the natural environment.

How will your program help prepare my child for elementary school?

6

Our program helps children build the academic and social skills needed for a smooth transition into elementary school.

Children develop:

  • Early literacy and language skills

  • Foundational math understanding

  • Problem-solving abilities

  • Independence and responsibility

  • Social and emotional skills

  • Confidence in learning environments

By encouraging curiosity, focus, and independence, we help children become confident learners ready for their next educational step.

How will you communicate with me about my child?

7

Open communication with families is very important to us. We keep parents informed about their child’s day, development, and experiences through regular communications, in person and via BrightWheel.

This may include:

  • Daily conversations at drop-off and pick-up

  • Messages about classroom activities and school events

  • Parent-teacher meetings when needed

We believe strong partnerships with families help to support each child’s success.

What opportunities do you provide to connect DMA families outside of school hours?

8

Building a strong community is very important to us. Throughout the year we plan opportunities for families to connect with one another and with our school community.

These may include:

  • Family events and celebrations

  • Social school activities

  • Opportunities to participate in classroom or school events

Our goal is to create a supportive community where families feel connected and involved.
